  Introduction
NCFE recognises that the role of the Teaching Assistant in improving outcomes for children in five key areas:

be healthy
stay safe
enjoy and achieve
make a positive contribution
achieve economic well-being

The qualification will help candidates who have successfully completed the NCFE Level 2 Certificate for Teaching Assistants to consolidate and enhance their knowledge and skills. It will also appeal to existing Teaching Assistants who would like the opportunity to achieve a nationally-recognised Level 3 vocational qualification that will formalise their experience within the classroom. Additionally, it would offer appropriately qualified Level 2 staff, for whom the NVQ would not be a suitable training medium, the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification.
The NCFE Level 3 Certificate for Teaching Assistants has been accredited by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and is part of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF)

  Course Strucutre
The qualification consists of six mandatory units:

Unit 01     Develop and maintain professional skills and knowledge
Unit 02     Develop and maintain effective working relationships
Unit 03     Contribute to the management of pupil behaviour
Unit 04     Contribute to pupils’ learning
Unit 05     Support pupils with special educational needs
Unit 06     Support the development of pupils’ literacy, numeracy and ICT skills

To be awarded the NCFE Level 3 Certificate for Teaching Assistants candidates are required to successfully complete all six mandatory units.

  Entry Guidance
Whilst not essential, it would be desirable for candidates to hold either an appropriate Level 2 Teaching Assistants qualification, or have at least one year’s experience of working with children and young people in a classroom environment.
Ultimately, the selection of candidates is at the discretion of centres. Candidates must have levels of literacy, numeracy and ICT skills sufficient to meet the demands of this qualification. Therefore, candidates must have qualifications or be proficienct equivalent to GCSE Grade C or above in English Language, Mathematics and ICT.
Additionally, candidates must be prepared to comply with vetting procedures for those working with children and young people, as required by current legislation.
The minimum entry age for this qualification is 18 years.
There are no other restrictions on candidate entry. However, candidates should be made aware that they should not register with NCFE or any other awarding body for a qualification at the same level with the same or a similar title as this could lead to duplication. Centres should note that funding levels may be affected for those candidates who undertake duplicate qualifications.
